In this episode, we are onboard four cruise ships that have reached new levels of opulence and decadence.
Cutting a swathe through the ocean, the Seven Seas Grandeur is one of the most-luxurious cruise ships in the world and boasts an exclusive, multi-million-pound art collection that’s the envy of major galleries around the world. We meet butler Immanuel who proudly shows off the suites which can cost up to £8000 per night where guests can indulge in complimentary caviar.
On board the world’s only ocean liner, the Queen Mary 2, we discover the pets are as pampered as their elite owners with mealtimes catered by the finest gourmet chefs. Then on gentler waters on the river cruise, the SS Maria Theresa, some culture-vultures including Lisa from Canada blend luxury living with a taste of East European history and art on their slow journey up the Danube. For Lisa, an after-hours museum visit to see masterpieces by Rubens, Klimt, and Vermeer up-close proves to be the highlight of her trip.
In Venice onboard the graceful giant of the ocean, the 42 sail Royal Clipper, 62-year-old Geoff from Nottingham, who’s on his first-ever clipper voyage with his wife Caroline, faces his fear of heights as to fulfil a childhood dream as he climbs the mast of the iconic tall ship.
