They’re the titans of the tarmac who transport nearly 80% of UK goods and travel millions of miles every year.
But what’s the world of truckers really like? In this show, narrated by Tim Healy, we’re going to find out as we meet a fleet of truckers prepared to open their trailers, pull back the cabin curtains and reveal all the secrets about life behind the wheel of a 10-ton monster truck. We meet Anthony who managed to combine trucks with rather smaller beasts of the road, Supercars. He’s responsible for safely delivering them to their multi-millionaire owners. We see him collect a prized collection of Ferraris and Lamborghinis worth a staggering £1.2 million which need transporting from the south of France to central London.
Smashing the idea of what a trucker looks like is platinum blonde Sophie. Decked out in Daisy Duke denim and a pretty checked blouse, she rocks the eye makeup and nail varnish while behind the wheel. But when it comes to the work Sophie is all action, using her 16 litre V8, 580 horsepower truck to transport heavy-duty plant hire equipment, even turning her hand to unloading it.
Trucker Chris reveals he’s not exactly the most popular trucker on the road given his noisy fridge trailer, but that’s nothing compared to his former trucking life. Chris’ used to drive trucks for the army, and as ‘Force Protection’ part of his role was protecting supply convoys being shot at in Afghanistan. Ross & Becky are a young couple who share a love of farming and trucking. With their livestock trucks, they’ve got their hands full taking them to and from farms. We also go behind the scenes at a rather unusual photo shoot, as a group of hearty truckers raise money for charity by stripping off; we get up close and personal with ‘The Road Legends’, who have become social media celebrities of the trucking world; Plus, there’s legendary singer Marty Mone who wows the crowds with his trucking themed songs at Truck Fest.
