As a nation, we love our gardens and there’s nothing we like more than spending time and money improving them. When they’re beautifully transformed, life can be a bed of roses. But when things go Horribly Wrong, you’ll want the ground to swallow you up. We’ve got the people who were there, along with your pick of the crop of your favourite TV gardeners, in this 90-minute special narrated by Nicki Chapman.
A dream garden that cost thousands is destroyed when a flood strikes. A gardener gets more than he bargains for when he comes face to face with a 4ft constrictor Mexican Black Kingsnake in his back garden in Ipswich. And a tree surgeon comes a cropper, good and proper, when his chainsaw catches fire, leaving him dangling at the top of a burning tree.
Other stories include a sensory garden that looks more like a scrapyard after bungling gardeners leave it in a sorry state. An English country garden is overcome by a flock of sheep, and a public garden makeover at London’s Marble Arch hits taxpayers where it hurts. Plus, TV’s Martin Roberts – someone who knows more about makeovers than most – recalls the time he accidentally rubbed the sap from a poisonous plant into his eyes while gardening. With swollen and streaming eyes, Martin then has to be rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.
Contributors include TV gardeners David Domoney & Danny Clarke and presenter Michaela Strachan.
